Our featured user this week is Skylar from southern Indiana, although you may know her better as @creepy-puzzle-queen. She always has fantastic themes for her designs, which is no surprise because she also comes up with amazing challenge ideas as well! Check out a few of our favorites from her feed and her full Q&A below.
What is the first thing you place on a blank canvas when starting a new design?
The dress, or the pants and shirt.
Describe your personal style in three words:
Dark, street, unique
Any fellow users that inspire you to create?
Looksbylyla is one of my favorite ShopLook users that I follow, and she is also the one who inspires me the most. She is my idol and I look up to her. She is a very talented girl, and her work is beyond amazing.
Something you haven’t worn but would like to:
Ripped jeans
Something from your closet that you could wear with anything for a week?
I prefer pants and a t-shirt with my converse shoes. It's comfortable and easier to move in.
Something you would never wear?
A pink mini dress (shivering in fear)
Something that you (almost) always include in your sets?
Some piece of makeup
Any advice for other creatives on ShopLook?
When I started I wasn't the best designer, my sets had flaws and things I didn't like about them, and they still do now, but I am improving. I kept trying and over time my sets got better with practice and with a little inspiration from fellow ShopLookers, such as Looksbylyla who is my idol and main inspiration. So keep trying and don't give up.
There will be some people along the way who won't like your set or think that it looks awful, but that's their opinion. As long as you think it looks great, it doesn't matter what others think. What I'm trying to say is, be yourself and don't let others tell you what you should or shouldn't do.
Express yourself and be unique. Don't let others bring you down just because they are having a bad day.
Current wallpaper on your phone or computer?
I use a chromebook to design my sets, but the wallpaper is a dark forest with fog.
Fun fact that others might not know about you?
I fell down a well when I was less than 2 years old.
Something that you bought recently and absolutely love?
Some white summer pants, (I'm not exactly sure what they're called)
Favorite school subjects?
Well, I really like math and art.
How long have you been part of the ShopLook community?
I have been creating outfits and designing sets for about a year and a half, and to be honest I had no idea this app existed until one of my friends at school introduced me to it. I don't know what inspired me to get started. Maybe it was the styles and the cool layouts of other users that inspired me, I don't exactly know. A little while before I started designing my mom had died and I was down in the dumps, and the pile of homework from school didn't help either. But when I was on Shoplook, I felt like I could escape it all and forget about things for a little while. Shoplook has brought some life back into me, and the people in it have felt like family.
Any nicknames?
I have a few nicknames, but I am most commonly known as Fido, like the dog. We were doing animal impressions one time and my friends thought I sounded like a real dog when I 'barked,' so they started to call me that. It was pretty weird at first but I got used to it after a while. I have also become the 'animal whisperer,' because animals seem to calm down when I'm around, at least that's what my friends say.
What do all the best sets have in common?
They reflect the designer’s sense of style and show a piece of their character.
