You know our featured user this week as @Luci-Her on ShopLook, but in real life she goes by Raine. Like many of us she was a Polyvore user, although she was only 11 or 12 at the time and dreaming of a life in the fashion world. She has grown up since then, but I think it’s pretty clear that she never lost her unique sense of style.
Keep scrolling to read her full Q&A and see some of our favorites from her feed.
Favorite fashion decade?
Again I'm stuck in the 80's. It's the decade where I fell in love with most of the people that inspire/influence my style. Janet Jackson, Lita Ford, Lisa Dominique, the group Vixen, Nasty Habits, Grace Jones and most importantly, Elvira.
When you start a new design, what is the first step?
Me being the melomaniac that I am, I usually put my playlist on shuffle and whatever comes on I'll use to fuel my creativity. Or sometimes I'll be watching a movie or show and become curious how I would look if I were a part of it and I'll showcase it here.
Describe your personal style in three words:
Punk. Fetish. Dark.
Have any fashion icons?
Other than the people I named in the decade question, my biggest influences are: Dita Von Teese, 90s Fairuza Balk. I'd also like to mention that there are a few internet personalities that have a big influence and I ADORE them. Their Instagram handles are: @6aliens, @calfskinned, @theglamgoth and, @saasha.steele
Something from your closet that you could wear with everything for a week?
A black leather jacket. There's so much you can do with it. Pair it with leather pants, a graphic tee and UNIF boots during the day and for a night out later on switch it up with a black mini dress, fishnets and your favorite platform heels. The possibilities are endless!
Something you would not wera?
Bright colors. They look phenomenal on other dark skinned individuals. I just feel that whenever I wear it I look like I'm trying to be someone I'm not.
Something you would like to wear but have not?
I would love to wear a Victorian bustle gown. Like the ones Winona Ryder wore in Bram Stoker's Dracula.
Something that you (almost) always include in your sets?
Something made of leather, latex or vinyl.
Any fellow ShopLookers that inspire your creativity?
@beatriceisabella is a cool person with eccentric themes. @mold never ceases to amaze me with their undoubtedly time consuming creations. @threadsbyladytitanium is a lover of leather like me and makes me want to try wearing more colors. @alldressedupbutnowheretogo satiates my craving for good editorial fashion that I'd actually wear. @Gon13_batty is someone I would definitely ask for fashion advice.
Advice for others looking to improve their creative process?
Don't try to follow the crowd or jump the bandwagon. It takes the fun out of it for yourself because you're not being creative or true to yourself. I like to think of this as an art form. As with all art you use it to express yourself. Make things for the approval of yourself, not other people.
Any favorite designs in your feed?
To this day my favorite sets of mine was 'Grease' series I did. It was my first few sets on Shoplook and I had a lot of fun making them because that has always been one of my favorite cult classics of all time.
What is your current phone wallpaper?
My lockscreen is a photo of myself (vain much?) My home screen is the black/white skin pattern of a western diamond-backed rattlesnake, which is my favorite snake.
Something that others might not know about youj?
I love to cook. It's pretty much how I display affection for the people that I love. I've always been awful at consoling someone when they're upset so you're more than likely to get a double layer chocolate cake from me instead of a shoulder to cry on.
Album you could listen to on repeat for a week straight?
I'm a big fan of 80's music so I would probably have to pick the Bebe Le Strange album from Heart. I actually have a vinyl copy of the album.
Something you bought recently and absolutely love?
I just bought a new set of rings. I always like to fill my fingers with rings (3 rings per finger) and I bought 14 new ones that I absolutely love.
Anything you once wore but now makes you cringe?
I was an emo-scene kid. I mean arm/leg warmers, wristbands, studded belts, the whole thing. Tacky, tacky, tacky.
Dream job?
I would love to work in an animal sanctuary. Preferably one with elephants lol.
Real-life job?
I currently work from home as a medical CPC. I'm also in online school, studying to become a criminal psychologist.
Any nicknames that others call you?
Medusa. I've always had a love for snakes and as a preteen I became infatuated with greek mythology. Medusa was always my favorite entity in greek mythology, so much so that I dreaded my hair to mimic her serpentine locks.
